Part-Time Lecturer, Art Education MAT Program (Field Studies Seminar/Student Teaching Seminar)

The Art Education MAT Program at Tufts University seeks faculty for two part-time courses during the 2024-25 school year.
Course Sequence
EDS 180: Field Studies Seminar (Pre-practicum for Grades 5-12) in the fall semester
and
EDS:174 Student Teaching Seminar (Practicum for Grades 5-12) in the spring semester
*Note: Must teach both the fall and spring courses for continuity across the year.
The fall course meets on Mondays 2-5pm (Hybrid) at the Tufts/SMFA campus in Boston and the Tufts campus in Medford.
The spring course meets on Zoom on Weds 4-7pm, with several in-person classes throughout the semester meeting at the SMFA campus in Boston and the Tufts campus in Medford.
All Art Education courses follow the MA Public School Schedule in the Spring.
The Art Education MAT Program prepares students to teach Visual Art in PK-12 schools and is designed and approved to meet the Massachusetts initial licensure requirements. Applicants must be aware of licensing protocols, MA Professional Standards for Teachers, and procedures for CAP (Candidate Assessment of Performance); must have experience working with Teacher Candidates (student teachers); and must have commitments to culturally sustaining, anti-racist curriculum development, teaching practice, and learning assessment.
The two graduate-level seminar courses are taken concurrently with the student teaching experience. The Seminar faculty member will have administrative responsibilities to provide support to our students regarding their student teaching and in coordination with Supervising Practitioners and Program Supervisors, including providing oversight of field experiences and all aspects of student teaching and related supports.
Teacher Candidates in the Fall Pre-practicum / EDS 180 spend over 75 hours on-site with a Supervising Practitioner in middle or high school art classes and an additional teaching internship at the MFA in Boston on weekends.
Teacher Candidates in Spring Practicum / EDS 174 spend over 300 on-site hours with a Supervising Practitioner in middle or high school art classes. Skills of planning, management, communication, assessment, self-evaluation, and collaboration as addressed in Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks are developed and refined with the guidance of both the Tufts faculty member, the Supervising Practitioner, and the Program Supervisor.
Qualifications
Required Experience:
· A master’s degree or higher
3-5 years of experience teaching at an accredited institution
5 years of experience teaching art in a 5-12 setting
· Extensive familiarity with the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education licensure requirements, including CAP
Preferred Experience:
Supervision of student teachers
Demonstrated leadership in the field and record of excellence with a broad range of professional accomplishments and knowledge in visual arts education
Strong connections to the art education and k-12 communities as evidenced through conference presentations, exhibitions, publications, and professional networks
