    The Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) position in Literacy Education, in the Department of Learning and Instruction. The Department of Learning and Instruction has a long history of research excellence and a strong tradition of teaching and community engagement. Faculty demonstrate a commitment to creating a collegial academic environment characterized by equity, social justice, interdisciplinary collaboration, an ethic of care, and research demonstrating an impact on children and youth, schools, or communities.

    We seek a colleague to join a collaborative, pragmatic group of literacy scholars and teacher educators who are committed to transforming reading, writing, and literacy instruction in P-12 settings. Ideal applicants should be passionate about preparing teachers to create equitable and inclusive literacy practices in historically underserved school settings and to deliver literacy instruction for populations diverse in languages, race, ethnicity, and culture. Candidates should be familiar with evidence-based literacy practices and assessment and align their teaching with high-quality literacy instruction grounded in asset-based perspectives.

    The Graduate School of Education partners with schools throughout Western New York and Buffalo, ensuring that students in education programs receive experiences teaching and supporting diverse students in a variety of contexts. Candidates should be willing to work as part of a team of literacy and teacher educators to serve and support innovative educational programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. These programs include GSE’s nationally recognized Teacher Residency program and a growing initial teacher preparation program (UB Teach) as well as an established Literacy Specialist (Birth-Grade 12) master’s program. These programs are delivered through in-person and fully online courses.

    Responsibilities include:
    •Teaching four courses per semester at the undergraduate or graduate level in initial teacher certification and/or Master's literacy programs
    •Serving the institution and the profession
    •Advising and mentoring Literacy Specialist Master’s and initial certification students

    Appointments are for a ten-month academic year beginning in the Fall of 2025.
