    Job Description


    The Department of Counseling & Human Services at Old Dominion University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Human Services to begin in Fall 2025 in the Norfolk, VA campus. This is a 10-month annual tenure track appointment with a 2/2 teach load, as well as service and research commitments.


    Minimum Qualifications - Education or training

    The minimum required education is an earned doctorate in Human Services or a closely related field by August 2025.

    Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification



    1. Evidence of professional identity in the field of human services (i.e., articulation of what human services is, and education, teaching, work, or service in a human services context.)

    2. Experience in the helping professions (e.g., human services, social work, counseling, community development.)

    3. Evidence of scholarly activities (e.g., publications in peer reviewed journals, academic presentations, etc.)

    4. Experience teaching undergraduate students in human services or a closely related field.

    5. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and being culturally competent in teaching, research, and in practice.


    Preferred Qualifications



    • Professional identity in the helping fields to include membership, leadership, or service in professional organizations (e.g., NOHSACANAADAC etc.) and actively presenting at national conferences.

    • Evidence of service on a community, university, state, or national level.

    • Evidence of the potential to secure external grant funding.

    • Credential in a helping profession (e.g., QMHP, HS-BCPLPCLCSWCSAC, etc.)

    • Experience with curriculum development and evaluation.

    • Experience in leadership and administration.

    • Experience teaching at the graduate level.
