    Job Description


    The Art Department at Old Dominion University invites applications for an annual, 10-month position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in July 25, 2025. This is a tenure track appointment with a 2/3 teaching load. We are particularly looking for an Assistant Professor specialized in contemporary art education for K-12 public school settings for this tenure track position. We welcome candidates whose lived experience, creative practice, research and/or teaching centers on historically underrepresented communities or marginalized practices in a way that would enhance learning experiences for our diverse student population. 

    This Assistant Professor will teach foundations and methods courses in a 2/3 teaching load. Course reductions may be given for student teaching internship supervision. They will also take on the responsibility of working with the College of Education and the public-school districts to advise students, administer, facilitate, and oversee practicums and student teaching experiences, and engage in research and perform department service responsibilities.

    Minimum Qualifications - Education or training


    Completed Ph.D. in Art Education (or in a related field) by July 25, 2025.

     

    Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification



    1. Experience/research in teaching and/or supervising student teachers/teachers in the art. classroom in public school K-12 settings.

    2. Demonstrate ability to teach at the undergraduate level.

    3. A commitment to inclusive learning and diversity.


    Preferred Qualifications



    • Knowledgeable on current issues and trends in art education.

    • Accomplished studio practice experience and/or exhibition record.

    • Teaching certification.

    • BFA and/or MFA.

    • Experience in elementary and secondary Art Education in public schools.

    • Demonstrated experience with service-learning activities.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Experience in managing and facilitating programming in the arts for children and youth.

    • Experience with contemporary media and digital technologies.

    • Experience teaching/working with students with special needs in an art setting.
