    Job Description


     

    The Department of Teaching & Learning in the Old Dominion University Darden College of Education and Professional Studies invites applications for the position of tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Mathematics Education beginning July 25, 2026. The Department seeks mathematics education scholars with expertise in mathematics, experience teaching secondary mathematics, and mathematics teacher leadership in K-12 school contexts.


    The candidate for this position should expect to:



      • Conduct scholarly research, produce publications, and seek external funding to support scholarly activities to develop a coherent research agenda;

      • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in secondary mathematics education and other areas of research and practice expertise; and

      • Mentor and advise advanced graduate and doctoral students.

    Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications
    Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or ED.D) in curriculum or instruction, mathematics education, or related field of study.

    Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities

    1. Completed 18 credits of upper level (500 or above) mathematics coursework by August 30, 2026.

    2. Evidence of an emerging research agenda at the assistant level or an established research agenda at the associate level – conducting research, submitting proposals for external funds, producing scholarly publications, presenting research findings, and being active in national and international professional associations.

    3. Prior mathematics teaching experience in K-12 schools with preference given for teaching experience at the middle and/or secondary levels.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Interest in program collaboration, leadership, and decision-making.

    • Experience developing and managing partnership relationships with PreK-12 schools.

    • Experience teaching online and face-to-face courses using a variety of technology and pedagogy for effective learning.

    • Special consideration will be given to applicants with, university collaborative efforts involving schools, postsecondary institutions, and agencies, experience in securing external funding, experience with and/or a commitment to working in diverse settings, and experience in a program leadership role.
