    Job Description


    The Old Dominion University is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Special Education (10-month, tenure track). This program offers undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD degrees. Duties will include:



      1. teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in special education,

      2. advising and mentoring students,

      3. supervising teacher candidates seeking certification in special education,

      4. conducting research, pursuing grant funding, and

      5. providing service to the profession, university, college, and department.



    The successful candidate will be expected to teach in traditional, on-campus classroom settings, and in field-based or distance learning modalities (i.e., web-conferencing synchronous and asynchronous). Further, the successful candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and participation in program decision-making.

     


    Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities


    1. Evidence of scholarly productivity, expertise in educational programming for students with mild/high-incidence disabilities in the general curriculum (e.g., emotional/behavioral disorders).

    2. Teaching experience in K-12 settings with diverse cultural, linguistic, and ethnic groups, and in settings that serve students with and without disabilities.

    3. Strong verbal, written, and technology skills.


     


    Minimum Qualifications - Education or training


    A doctoral degree in Special Education or a closely related field (ABD with a completion date prior to July 15th, 2024 considered).

     


    Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification


    Preferred Qualifications


    Preferred candidates for the position would have:


    • A record of peer-reviewed publications in recognized journals and a record of grant procurement.

    • Training and experience in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), or more areas of special education.

    • University teaching experience in special education, including online instruction and effective integration of technology in the instructional process.

    • A research expertise on students in the general curriculum K-12, especially with transition-age students with disabilities.
