My research explores issues of sport governance, especially at the intersection of transnational sport and international politics. The study of sport governance is concerned with explaining processes of power, authority, and regulation in sport contexts. The intellectual goal of my research is to develop and test theoretical models that identify and account for the relationships among determinants of sport governance outcomes. Pragmatically, my research can inform sport governance reform strategies and approaches at all levels of sport. My current work is specifically concerned with understanding transnational sport governance as a form of global governance. This work emphasizes international political system structure, domestic regime type, and hegemonic discourses of sport as factors that account for the stability and (increasingly) the flaws of current governance approaches in transnational sport.
