The first falls within the field of higher education with particular reference to research students and research training and project management. This interest in research training also segues into research in industrial and other settings.
The second area of interest is research assessment, evaluation, dissemination and use, ranging from how research student thesis work is assessed through to evaluating the impact of research. A recent cross-institutional project I was involved in was funded by DEST (2000) and mapped the impact of educational research at the school & policy level. I am also involved in studies that explore peer review processes and the impact of research publications. My most recent ARC discovery grant (2003-5) is on the topic of doctoral assessment.
My third area of interest is that of history, particularly histories of youth (especially youth transition), classrooms, non-formal educational and vocational settings, and oral history. I have also been engaged in several institutional history projects.
