My research focus centres on challenging normative and deficit assumptions and engaging with practical issues relating to children's rights and social inclusion for young children, particularly for children who are marginalised due to experiences of difference and disability. This is reflected in past and present projects including ongoing research working with families of young children with disabilities, a project investigating the experiences of refugee children in Australian detention centres, research considering attitudes and beliefs of early childhood professionals towards inclusion and inclusive education, and research investigating the experiences of young children in emergency and fragile contexts. My doctoral research investigated the development of phonological awareness, reading comprehension and phonological output of children with Down syndrome. I have a particular interest in methods of engaging all children in the joys of literacy
