Dr. Bennett’s research agenda focuses on furthering our understanding of pre-service teacher and in-service teacher beliefs, knowledge, and implementation of disciplinary literacy pedagogy (e.g., scientific literacy, mathematical literacy, and historical literacy) in the elementary and secondary classroom. Within this agenda, she has identified two broad research goals: (1) investigating pre-service and in-service teacher beliefs, knowledge, and understanding of disciplinary literacy pedagogy and the Common Core State Standards and (2) investigating discipline-specific writing practices in the elementary and secondary classroom. Dr. Bennett is also interested in exploring the implementation of place-based pedagogy in rural elementary and secondary classrooms.
