Position Overview

The College of Education (COE) at Butler University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty member in Education with an expected start date of August 2025. The successful candidate will teach courses in the Middle/Secondary (grades 5-12) licensure program, the College of Education foundational core, and depending on qualifications, the Master’s of Science in the Experiential Program for Preparing School Principals. We are seeking a highly motivated colleague with expertise in and a demonstrated commitment to middle/secondary education, especially in the areas of science and/or mathematics, who is eager to collaborate on initiatives related to teaching and learning with our community, local school, and state partnerships; and to contribute to the vision for teacher preparation in the College of Education. We are particularly interested in applicants from identity groups currently underrepresented in teacher preparation within higher education institutions. 

Responsibilities

  • Teach 9 credit hours of on campus courses each semester
  • Advise undergraduate students
  • Supervise students during field-based settings
  • Foster relationships with local schools and educational organizations to enhance community partnerships and improve educational practice
  • Produce scholarship aligned with COE expectations for positive progress toward tenure;
  • Provide service to the program, College, University, and professional community
  • Offer vision, leadership, and creativity to the College of Education and to the Middle/Secondary major.

Required Qualifications 

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited university in Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field by contract start date
  • At least three years of experience and excellence in teaching in educational settings at the middle and/or secondary levels
  • significant coursework or experience in the areas of science education and/or mathematics education
  • evidence of sustained commitment and action towards diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational settings
  • experience working with students and colleagues from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • alignment with the COE Shared Commitments and the mission of Butler University.

Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone will possess all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Demonstrated commitment to interrupting and eliminating inequitable outcomes, removing barriers, and creating inclusive conditions for individuals and communities regardless of any predictive identities;
  • Familiarity with middle and high schools in the United States;
  • Vision for and experience in transformative middle/secondary educator preparation;
  • Experience working as a school administrator;
  • Valid principal licensure;
  • Proficiency in another language in addition to English;
  • Knowledge and experience to support learners from a variety of backgrounds with strong, student-centered, inclusive instructional methods;
  • Proven success or potential for success in scholarship commensurate with the expectations within a "teacher-scholar" model;
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
