The Graduate School of Education (GSE) at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, invites applications for a Full-Time Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) position in our Mental Health Counseling Program ( accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council, MPCAC), in the Department of Counseling, School and Educational Psychology (CSEP). The GSE is committed to fostering the principles of equity, diversity, justice, and inclusion through an engaged community of scholars who prioritize research, teaching, and community action that address educational, economic, social, and health disparities. CSEP is an interdisciplinary and collaborative department operating within a community-based, scientist-practitioner methodology that informs students, scholars, and practitioners to build upon the strengths of diverse populations. Faculty demonstrate a commitment to creating a collegial academic environment characterized by equity, social justice, and interdisciplinary collaboration by ensuring that the research and practice mission of GSE contributes to local schools, agencies, and neighborhoods. Our mental health program is expanding to address the mental health workforce shortage in New York State and beyond. We seek a candidate whose teaching and scholarship address mental health in the areas of access, outcome, service provision, training, and/or policy. Therefore, we seek a motivated, collaborative colleague, eager to engage with others and whose teaching and service will contribute to the department in one or more of the following areas:
- Social and structural determinants of health and mental health inequity
- Culturally responsive care
- Process or process-outcome research in psychotherapy or counseling
- Mental health in the workplace
- Technology-related innovations in psychotherapy or counseling (e.g., AI, telehealth)
- Clinical supervision
Priority status will be given to scholars who take critical and innovative approaches to transforming existing ways of promoting mental health to ensure the well-being of all people, particularly those from minoritized groups. Ideal candidates will make clear connections between their teaching and service and the needs of marginalized and/or underserved populations.
Responsibilities Include:
- Teach four courses per semester at the graduate level.
- Advise and mentor graduate students.
- Support efforts to recruit M.S. students.
- Fulfill service responsibilities related to program, departmental, and university affiliations.
Appointments are for a ten-month academic year beginning in the Fall 2025.
For full consideration, please submit your materials by October 7, 2024. The position will remain open until filled.
