JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Professional Learning Lead will be responsible for working with schools implementing Project Lead the Way (PLTW) programs to ensure that teachers have the support they need to deliver classroom experiences of exceptional quality. In partnership with Project Lead The Way and Mass STEM Hub, WPI aspires to make PLTW teachers the best supported teachers in the state with the hunger and opportunity to continuously improve the applied learning experiences they offer to students. The Professional Learning Lead will play a key role in helping to execute on this objective. She/he will report to the Director of Pre-collegiate Outreach Programs.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Professional Learning Lead will be responsible for working with schools implementing Project Lead the Way (PLTW) programs to ensure that teachers have the support they need to deliver classroom experiences of exceptional quality. In partnership with Project Lead The Way and Mass STEM Hub, WPI aspires to make PLTW teachers the best supported teachers in the state with the hunger and opportunity to continuously improve the applied learning experiences they offer to students. The Professional Learning Lead will play a key role in helping to execute on this objective. She/he will report to the Director of Pre-collegiate Outreach Programs.

Specific responsibilities related to PLTW include but are not limited to:
  • School-based coaching:
  • Spending approximately 2 days per week in schools throughout the academic year to understand common strengths and challenges experienced by PLTW teachers in order to identify areas for priority focus at the conference, PD day, and across other support opportunities
  • Interacting with school and district leaders on an ongoing basis to understand their thoughts on the areas of greatest potential for augmented teacher support


  • Project Lead The Way Fall conference:
  • Generating ideas for sessions at the fall conference designed to advance teacher practice
  • Supporting teachers and PLTW staff as they work to refine materials for the conference
  • Managing all aspects of planning and coordination of the Conference Committee to ensure the group is structured to provide value in planning for the conference
  • Making invitations to speakers/presenters for the conference
  • Overseeing registrations, room reservations, IT support, catering, student volunteers and other logistics of running the conference


  • Project Lead The Way Spring professional development day:
  • Generating ideas for training content at the spring PD day designed to foster continuous improvement and high levels of affiliation among PLTW teachers
  • Supporting individuals who will lead trainings as they plan for the PD day
  • Overseeing registrations, room reservations, IT support, catering, student volunteers and other logistics of running the conference


  • Summer core training:
  • Providing onsite support as needed to ensure the PLTW training experience for teachers is of the highest quality
  • Forming early relationships with PLTW teachers to start to understand their support needs and build the level of trust required to launch a high-quality support relationship
  • Developing and managing the agreement between WPI and PLTW to run the summer core training
  • In conjunction with an events planner managing all aspects of summer core training including room reservation, liaising with residential service, catering, IT and other WPI departments as necessary to plan for the training
  • Acting as WPI concierge for PLTW teachers while they are here on campus as it applies to campus logistics


  • Ongoing strategic project support:
  • Collaborating with the Mass STEM Hub and PLTW to identify opportunities to strengthen the ecosystem of teacher supports available for PLTW teachers
  • Playing a key role in the design and execution of new support opportunities


  • Fiscal Responsibilities
  • Managing budget for the fall conference and spring professional development days supported by the One 8 foundation gift
  • Managing the budget for the summer core training based on the WPI/PLTW agreement



CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
The Professional Learning Lead must embody a high standard for excellence, rigor, passion, and commitment, while working alongside teachers to provide the support to drive their ongoing success. Qualified candidates will possess:
  • A minimum of 5 years of K-12 STEM teaching experience with strong preference for experience teaching PLTW content
  • Proven ability to deliver high quality professional development and coaching to adults
  • The ability to provide insight and support through classroom observations, identity key themes, and translate findings into specific next steps and opportunities for improvement
  • Strong creative problem-solving abilities to overcome perceived barriers at both interpersonal and organizational levels
  • A proven track record in designing and delivering high quality experiences for teachers and other stakeholders in the K-12 education space
  • The ability to investigate new technologies and advances in teacher professional development to ensure that all offerings are provide a cutting-edge experience with maximal efficiency
  • Deep experience collaborating across organizational boundaries and with professionals from different backgrounds
  • The self-motivation, curiosity and creativity needed to work independently but also as part of a successful team.
  • Must be able to manage multiple ongoing projects and responsibilities as well as handle frequent interruptions
  • The candidate must possess excellent organizational and communication skills, strong analytical abilities, a high energy level, and maturity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
  • Bachelor's degree (required); MA preferred.
