Description
As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks an Assistant Professor of Literacy to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by reporting to the Dean, this person will provide instructional expertise to educators in the teacher education (graduate and undergraduate) and leadership development programs. This position will also collaborate with the Coordinator of Reading Programs to provide support for services delivered to K-12 schools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in reading, reading instruction, and other literacy – related courses in various delivery modes, including face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line.
Maintain an active literacy – related research agenda that involves publications and presentations at the national level as well as grant writing.
Provide leadership and service to college and public, private, and charter schools (locally/nationally).
Advise students on degree and certification requirements and career options.
Serve on college and university committees as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
A terminal degree in related field (or ABD if degree will be awarded by August 2025).
Minimum of 3 years of literacy – related K-12 teaching experience.
Expertise in undergraduate and graduate-level reading/literacy instruction.
The ideal candidate will have:
A record of current and past scholarly and professional activities in literacy education.
A willingness to work with reform-minded and thought leaders.
A commitment to supporting all types of schools (public, private, and Catholic).
Experience in teaching online or hybrid formats at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
