    Nazarbayev University

    Nazarbayev University is an English-medium university established in Kazakhstan in 2010. In its first entry in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in 2023, it ranked 500-600 in the world, confirming its position in the top 30% of universities globally after only 13 years of existence. The Graduate School of Education (GSE), which was launched in 2013, ranked 250-300 in the 2023 subject rankings. GSE offers programmes at Master’s and PhD level. Our alumni lead education reform across the school sector in Kazakhstan and beyond. Due to expansion, GSE invites applications for Full Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors specializing in research and teaching in the field of school education for faculty positions beginning between April and August 2024.


    Responsibilities at all ranks include teaching, research, and service, on a 40%-40%-20% ratio. The University offers opportunities for research support. All positions are initially for a three-year term with the possibility of renewal. 


    The successful candidate will be expected to teach postgraduate courses in our MSc in Educational Leadership (School Education) programme and may contribute to teaching in other Master’s courses and/or our PhD in Education programme depending on strengths and expertise. Applicants specialising in STEM/STEAM education are especially welcome to apply, as are those who are confident teaching advanced quantitative skills in educational research.


    For Assistant Professor



    • PhD in an appropriate discipline from an accredited and recognized international university (ABD at time of application will be considered, but PhD must be in hand at the time of appointment, and current PhD holders will be given priority);

    • A demonstrated record of research and at least 1 high-quality journal publication;

    • Teaching experience at the university level (experience in postgraduate programmes will be given priority);

    • Excellent intercultural communication and collaboration skills;

    • Commitment to maintaining a collegial and inclusive work environment;

    • Commitment to making a difference through education to the School, University, and wider society. 


    For Associate Professor 


    All criteria above, plus:



    • A demonstrated record of research and  high-quality publications appropriate to rank in the past 5 years;

    • Experience of successful research grant application;

    • Experience in developing new courses and programme curricula;

    • Experience in supervising Master’s and PhD student thesis research.


    For Full Professor


    All criteria above, plus:



    • Experience of leading research projects, preferably with international teams;

    • Experience in leadership positions at departmental or School/Faculty level;

    • Experience in mentoring emerging researchers.
